Walkathon information and Route

Date: 24th March 2013
Time: 10:00 - 13:30
Route: From Hok Tau (North District)
to Fung Yuen (Tai Po)

Starting at Hok Tau BBQ Site, the route goes along Hok Tau Road and Hok Tau Reservoir Family Walk, passing through Sha Lo Tung, and reaches Fung Yuen at the end.

The route is well designed for hiking and leisure in the natural scenery of Pat Sin Leng Country Park. Walking along Hok Tau Reservoir, you would find Sha Lo Tung, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) amazingly with the clear stream and natural habitat. The end point Fung Yuen is also a famous designated site for butterflies.

This year, Dr. Chan Ka-lok, Kenneth (member of the LegCo, Civic Party) and Prof. Chan King-ming (Director, Environmental Science program & Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, CUHK )are invited to attend our kick-off ceremony as the honourable guests.

Our target is to promote the importance of environmental protection and conservation through participation. While enjoying the beautiful landscape of the countryside and spending a weekend joyfully, you could also comprehend the unique ecology, history and culture of Hong Kong. After realising the importance of conservation, we may together treasure and protect our natural resources, both locally and globally.

Participants could also enrich the understanding of biodiversity and human ecology, and ways to minimize environmental impacts in our daily life, in order to improve the environment for our next generation. On that day, our tour guides will introduce the ecological and historical values at different spots, by sharing the information about the ecology, such as woodland and river ecosystem, impact of urban development towards natural environment and local communities.
